North Beach is where the Beats wrote poetry, where Italian families still make fresh pasta, and where City Lights Bookstore has been changing minds since 1953. It's touristy in spots, but step one block off Columbus and you're in the real thing — old-school trattorias, jazz clubs, and neighborhood bars.
